Shogun | Samurai | Ronin
-
The Shogun, Samurai & Ronin Series is an evolving collection of drawings and paintings which indulges my fascination with medieval Japan. This subject as held a lifelong fascination for me, especially my admiration for the artisans involved in crafting the ornate battle armour, both the Mengu the Samurai kabuto helmets. Their creations—both beautiful and fearsome—continue to inspire me. This body of work is not a reproduction of any specific historical armour; rather, it is a personal interpretation of the artistry, symbolism, and spirit embedded in these extraordinary objects.
The full series is divided into three interconnected parts:
Shoguns
Large oil paintings on specially treated paper, each one commanding and ceremonial.
Samurai
A diverse collection of drawings ranging from 6×9 works in ink, pencil, and acrylics, to 18×24 colour‑pencil pieces, and others exceeding that scale.
Ronin
Mixed‑media drawings—ink, chalk, pencil, conte, and more—typically created in black and white with occasional splashes of colour.
